ABOUT
Established in 2017, PREMIFLO has been central to the Gwatyu Community’s fight for legal recognition of their land rights and redress for generations affected by colonial and apartheid-era policies.
We address the needs of over 600 families – approximately 1 300 people - living on seventy seven rural farms across 35 000 hectares in the Chris Hani District of the Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality in the Eastern Cape Province, South Africa.
We understand the community we serve is not homogenous within and between generations. Therefore, singular solutions to problems and solutions cannot be parachuted into the community, no matter how well they may have worked elsewhere.
We view the community as an interconnected whole with inherent complexities tied to its past, present and future. As such, we assert that substantive social problems are characteristically difficult to solve, frequently lack clear stop-start boundaries, have multiple interlocking and reinforcing factors, and are subject to many and differing opinions of others.
We believe the challenges faced by the Gwatyu Community can only be improved by our understanding and addressing the human experiences of those directly affected in the community in a meaningful and helpful manner from their perspective.
We follow a Rights-based Approach to social accountability.
We use Systems Thinking paired with a Community Life-Course Approach.
We use Human Centred Design.
We follow Weick’s Small Wins strategy to gain traction within our stakeholder-dense situation.
We fully commit to impact-oriented management and measurements.
SDG INTEGRATION Over the next two years, we are committed to aligning our systems to the UNDP’s Sustainable Development Goals Impact Standards to strengthen our capacity as an SDG partner.
This process has started with us reviewing the four themes of the SDGIS to align our governance and management systems.
